Directions
to the Litchfield History Museum and the Tapping Reeve House and
Law School
Litchfield
is located in the northwestern hills of Connecticut at the junction
of routes 202, 118, and 63 (all of which meet and cross at the town
Green).
Coming
to Litchfield from the north or east of Litchfield
Take
I-84 to Exit 39. Get off at Exit 39, and take Route 4 to Route
118 (They meet just after you go through Harwinton.) Follow
118 into the center of Litchfield.
This
is the shortest route, but it can be a little confusing. Be
sure to pay attention to the Route 4 signs, because the road
turns a couple of times at traffic lights. This route takes
about an hour from Hartford to Litchfield.
From
the south or west:
Take
I-84 to Route 8 (at Waterbury, expect to exit on the left side).
Take Route 8 to Exit 42 (Litchfield/Harwinton, Route 118). Take
a left on Route 118 and follow it about six miles into the center
of Litchfield. This route takes about and hour from Danbury;
from Waterbury it takes 20 minutes.
or,
take I-84 to Route 7 North (at Danbury). Take Route 7 to Route
202. Watch for Route 202 signs in New Milford. Take Route 202
into the center of Litchfield. This route takes about an hour
from Danbury.
Once
you have arrived in Litchfield:
The
Litchfield Historical Society is located on the corner of Route
63 South and Route 118. It is a brick building with green trim
on the southeast side of the Green. The Tapping Reeve House
and Law School are a little further south on Route 63 (South
Street). They are located on the west side of the street behind
a white fence.
For
either building, cars and vans may park along the street or
in the municipal lot located halfway down the street behind
the block of brick commercial buildings across from the Museum.
Busses should park behind one of the churches on South Street
(just a few buildings south of the Museum). Street parking spaces
in the center of town are subject to time limits. Please follow
the signs.
