Modern Litchfield

Today, Litchfield is a vibrant community. The town’s population continues to grow, and residents and visitors alike treasure the historic character of the architecture and landscape. The colonial revival interest in the town’s 18th and early 19th century architecture eventually prompted the establishment of a historic district in the center of Litchfield.

The town’s traditional New England look, its size, its proximity to urban areas makes it a popular choice for young families, retirees, and people with weekend homes. Many old Litchfield families remain. As in most of today’s small towns, the majority of young people leave the community to attend college and to work. Some come back.

Litchfield attracts significant numbers of tourists every year. Travelers from all over the world visit Litchfield to enjoy its architecture, shops, restaurants, and natural beauty. Favorite pastimes for visitors, as well as residents, include outdoor sports such as hiking, boating, and cycling.
