Description: Portrait miniatures thrived in America in the early nineteenth century. In this talk Curator of Collection, Alex Dubois, will dig deeper into the art of painting tiny watercolor likenesses on ivory by examining the life and work of artist Anson Dickinson. Born Milton in 1779, Dickinson completed over 1,500 miniatures in his career and traveled as far as South Carolina and Montreal seeking new commissions. Join us as we discuss his early life in Litchfield, view his original works, and explore the pages of his own sketchbook.
